Press Area / August 07 - Torino and Piemonte at MIMS

Torino and Piemonte, North Western Italian region, cradle of the automotive and mobility technology sector, return to MIMS, leading international event, to present the regional components production to the Russian and Eastern European markets

August 2007 – Torino and Piemonte present at MIMS - from 29th August to 2nd September - 18 companies of the automotive sector (auto, commercial and industrial vehicles, trailers and buses), which embody the productive and technological excellence of the regional components production - stand F065m.
The participation is promoted by the Torino Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with API Torino and is organised by Piemonte Agency for Investments, Export and Tourism, main institution for the international development of Piemonte territory.

All Piedmontese exhibiting companies produce and commercialise: motor components, transmission and suspensions components, intake and exhaust systems, body panels, wheels, electrical and electronical components, interiors, accessories, care and washing products and garage equipment.
Eleven companies, all participating at the last editions of MIMS, have stable business relationships with Russia, in terms of direct sells and through distributors and agents. On the other hand, it is the first participation for the remaining seven.

On booth visitors can also meet the operative Team of From Concept to Car, project promoting abroad a selection of over 150 best in class companies and the expertise of regional automotive industry. Free of charge, the Team offers foreign buyers a quick access to a wide supply offer and a valuable support in outsourcing activities on the regional territory and mainly in Torino.

Concerning the automotive sector, Piemonte is a good supplier and commercial partner for Russia. Piedmontese exports to Russia (13,6% of the total share) register the means of transportation as the second most important voice: in the first 9 months of 2006 they reached up to 28,7%. Furthermore, in the same period of time, Russian purchases of Piedmontese automotive components grew of 50% compared to January-September 2005. The vehicles export variation was more limited (+18,3%). Conversely, Piedmontese purchases of parts and accessories from the Russian territory reached a value of almost 3 million euros (-69,3% compared to January-September 2005).
Heart of the Italian car industry, Torino and Piemonte boast a rich heritage of expertise in manufacturing and excellence in terms of inventiveness, skill, love for the product, and technical/design quality. In detail, Piemonte offers a widespread network of outstanding production facilities diversified into various sectors (styling, design, prototyping, automation, component production and models, mass production and niche production) with one unique feature: the entire planning and production cycle is concentrated in the same area.

The tradition of “knowing how to make cars” has always kept up with the times; today a considerable number of companies involved in the car industry are organised into groups, able to carry out the most complex and delicate jobs while maintaining the lean production chain. Around 27% of the companies in the “car system” are part of organised structures, equally divided between international groups/corporations and local SME groups. The Piedmontese component consists of 956 joint stock (45% of the national share) companies employing more than 141,000 persons. 32 are international original equipment manufacturers that supply systems and modules, while 136 specialise in engineering and design products and services. Worth mentioning is that 48% of the Piedmontese companies offer innovative products generated by investing in research and collaboration with Italian and foreign research centres and Polytechnics.
