Kurs Orbital chooses Piemonte’s thriving space economy as a launching pad for its modules for orbital logistics and assistance.

The Kurs Orbital start-up project originated from the vision of Volodymyr Usov, former Chairman of the State Space Agency of Ukraine (SSAU), and Vadym Vasiliev, a specialist in the space sector and orbital docking technologies. The company was established in early 2022 in Torino, where the project took concrete form. Kurs Orbital develops reliable and sustainable rendezvous and docking technologies, enabling the creation of orbital infrastructure. Its ARCap module supports the assembly of modular data centers, extends satellite operational lifetimes, enables in-orbit services, and facilitates active space debris removal

The project in Piemonte

In March 2024, Kurs Orbital raised €3.7 million in a seed funding round involving both Italian and international investors. This was followed by an additional €1.1 million in subsidized financing through the national Smart&Start programme, managed by Invitalia. The company currently employs around 15 people and is steadily expanding, also benefiting from its proximity to the Politecnico di Torino, which provides access to a highly qualified talent pool and supports the recruitment of young engineers through both direct hires and internship programs.

The company is an alumnus of the ESA BIC Turin incubation program, managed by I3P with the technological support from the Politecnico di Torino and Fondazione LINKS, in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Italian Space Agency (ASI). It was also named “Start-up of the Year” in 2024 by the same incubator. It has further participated in leading international acceleration programs, including Seraphim Space Camp and SpaceFounders, and is currently part of the Thales Alenia Space – Space Business Catalyst initiative, launched in Torino in 2025 by one of Europe’s leading satellite manufacturers.
The company is involved in several calls for proposals issued by the Italian Space Agency (ASI), working in consortium with major industrial and research organizations at both regional (Piemonte) and national levels, and is preparing for the in-orbit demonstration (IOD) of the X-band radar unit of the ARCap module.
The choice of Piemonte - and Torino in particular - as the company’s headquarters has proven strategic, thanks to the city’s central role in Italy’s academic and entrepreneurial space ecosystem.

Piemonte Agency's support

Piemonte Agency's support and its extensive connections in the national business network was decisive in the choice of Kurs Orbital to locate in Torino and favoured the launch of strategic and technological partnerships in Italy.
