Interporto Rivalta Scrivia: Katoen Natie’s strategic and integrated intermodal hub for the logistics of the future
Katoen Natie is a Belgian logistics and engineering group founded in Antwerp in 1854. Today, the group operates 180 logistics platforms across 30 countries, providing tailor-made supply chain solutions to customers in the consumer goods, petrochemical, food & feed, and industrial sectors. Worldwide, Katoen Natie employs 19,000 people.
The project in Piemonte
In 2012, Katoen Natie acquired Rivalta Scrivia Interporto in Tortona, in the province of Alessandria, transforming it into the group’s strategic gateway to Italy and Southern Europe. Rivalta represents the cornerstone of Katoen Natie’s Italian network. The location of Rivalta Scrivia is unique: positioned within the strategic triangle between Milano, Torino and Genova, with direct road and rail connections to the Ligurian ports of Genova, La Spezia and Vado Ligure, it serves as a natural hub for import and export activities across Northern Italy and Central-Southern Europe. Goods move seamlessly from port to warehouse and from warehouse to customer through a fully integrated logistics flow.
Katoen Natie continuously invests in the infrastructure, equipment and sustainability of the Rivalta Scrivia site. This approach reflects the group’s long-term vision: Katoen Natie owns and operates its own infrastructure and invests with a multi-decade perspective rather than following the logic of contract cycles. Today, Rivalta Scrivia Interporto is one of the group’s largest logistics platforms, featuring more than 440,000 m² of covered warehouse space, direct rail connections for both containers and conventional rail wagons, and a workforce of over 450 employees. The site serves a wide range of industries - from consumer goods and industrial markets to commodities & general cargo, as well as food & feed - creating synergies in terms of people, equipment and IT systems across operations, while providing customers with the flexibility to scale capacity during seasonal and promotional peaks.
