EUROPEAN FILM MARKET IN BERLIN: PIEMONTE SIGNS AGREEMENTS AND STRENGTHENS ITS LEADERSHIP IN THE CINEMA AND AUDIOVISUAL INDUSTRY
Torino, February 13th, 2026 – Following its successful debut in 2025, Piemonte, North-Western Italian region, has returned with a dedicated stand at the European Film Market (EFM), one of the leading international events for the film, audiovisual and digital creative industries, taking place in Berlin from 12 to 18 February alongside the Berlin International Film Festival. Eleven SMEs from Piemonte are representing the entire regional supply chain within the collective participation organized by Piemonte Agency as part of the “ICT” Integrated Supply Chain Project promoted by Regione Piemonte (Regional Government), funded by the ERDF Regional Programme 2021–2027.
The Participation in EFM is part of an internationalization pathway launched in 2024 by Regione Piemonte and Piemonte Agency, developed in strong synergy with Film Commission Torino Piemonte. This collaboration has helped consolidate the positioning of the regional film and audiovisual system at major international industry events – starting with the Marché du Film in Cannes – and naturally continued with the organization in Torino of two editions of the “International Cinema & Audiovisual Business Days” in 2024 and November 2025. On those occasions, scouting and relationship-building activities carried out in foreign markets translated into the incoming presence of international buyers and industry professionals in the region.
The highlight of Piemonte’s presence in Berlin will be the networking event scheduled on February 14th, bringing together over 50 selected international operators, identified also thanks to ongoing scouting and relationship-building activities in foreign markets. The initiative will provide an important opportunity for discussion and business matching with companies involved in the “ICT” Integrated Supply Chain Project, active across fields ranging from independent production to post-production, dubbing to audio post-production, music to animation and live-action production. At the same time, Film Commission Torino Piemonte will present producers and projects supported by the “Piemonte Film TV Development Fund,” a development fund for feature films and TV series entirely supported by the Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo under a multi-year agreement with Regione Piemonte.
Within this framework, the agreement between Alps Studios – a post-production company based in Torino with offices in London and Australia – and Japanese producer Genki Takigawa will also be formalized. The partnership, developed through the “ICT” Integrated Supply Chain Project, marks a strategic step for the company, signalling its entry into film production while strengthening cultural and commercial ties with the Japanese market.
Cinefonie and Machiavelli Music are also attending the European Film Market, continuing internationalization paths launched in previous editions thanks to the “ICT” Integrated Supply Chain Project. Cinefonie is in Berlin to strengthen co-production relationships developed last year both during EFM and within the “International Cinema & Audiovisual Business Days.” These include dialogue with a Bosnian partner on the socio-political documentary Pravda za Davida and collaboration with Estonian company Tallifornia Eriotstarbeline Massiivne Tellis OÜ on the film Blue Lada, directed by Urmet Piiling and recently awarded funding under the Italy–Estonia co-development call.
Building on contacts initiated during EFM 2025, Machiavelli Music aims to consolidate collaborations with international producers: two U.S. producers operating in Spain for the creation of the original soundtrack of a horror film; an Austrian production developing two period films set during the French Revolution and late 1940s New York, for which it will oversee full music supervision, from original score production to catalogue licensing; and a Swiss–U.S. company for which it will provide music consultancy and catalogue licensing for a drama film.
“The presence of Piemonte at the European Film Market in Berlin represents a strategic choice combining culture and economic development. The audiovisual sector,” state Regional Councillors for Culture Marina Chiarelli and for Productive Activities and Internationalization Andrea Tronzano, “is a high value-added industry capable of generating skilled employment, attracting investment and strengthening the territory’s international identity. The integrated work between Regione Piemonte, Ceipiemonte and Film Commission Torino Piemonte consolidates a model that combines production support, internationalization tools and concrete business assistance, with the aim of enhancing the competitiveness of the Piemonte supply chain in global markets and creating new collaboration and co-production opportunities.”
“Being present at the European Film Market is part of a continuous internationalization work for the Piemonte audiovisual supply chain and represents a strategic foothold in the European market, which remains fundamental for the sector’s growth,” comments Dario Peirone, President of Piemonte Agency. “Our agency maps and enhances the skills of Piemonte companies by building structured pathways in foreign markets and targeted business opportunities: in recent months we have accompanied more than 50 companies to major international film and audiovisual events, generating over 500 B2B meetings with buyers and organizing the International Cinema & Audiovisual Business Days in Torino, which brought more than 20 producers and financiers from around the world to Piemonte. A commitment already translating into commercial agreements, partnerships, co-production projects and potential foreign investments in the region.”
According to Beatrice Borgia, President of Film Commission Torino Piemonte, “the participation in this edition of the European Film Market further strengthens Piemonte’s positioning within the international audiovisual landscape, highlighting more than ever the ability of our institutional system to operate in a cohesive and structured manner, offering an integrated ecosystem of innovative support tools, such as the development fund supported by Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo and the production fund made available by Regione Piemonte. A comprehensive and coordinated investment capable of generating significant economic impact in the region, fostering talent growth and supporting strategic investments for the future of the Piemonte audiovisual industry.”
The European Film Market is one of the most important global platforms for the international film, media and entertainment industry. Each year it brings together producers, distributors, sales agents, buyers and financiers from around the world for the acquisition, sale and licensing of films, series, documentaries and other audiovisual content. Beyond its commercial dimension, EFM is a true hub for networking, trend analysis and international collaboration. Over eight days, it hosts approximately 10,000 professionals, 500 exhibitors from 60 countries and more than 800 film screenings, positioning itself as a platform for innovation and change in the sector, the first major film market of the year and a strategic reference point for new productions, forward-looking business models, contacts and international agreements.
In this global context, strongly oriented toward the development of the audiovisual industry, Piemonte stands out as one of Italy’s most solid and dynamic regions. Historically recognized as the cradle of the national film industry – where the first cinemas and pioneering films were created, alongside major developments in television, telephony and IT – Piemonte continues to play a leading role. The most recent data from Film Commission Torino Piemonte confirm this centrality: in 2025 the region hosted 228 productions and 1,121 shooting days, with a portfolio including 23 feature films, 18 documentaries, 38 short films and 6 TV series, in addition to commercials, TV formats and music videos. These figures highlight the richness of a territory capable of offering an extraordinary variety of locations - from metropolitan settings to lakes, countryside to mountain landscapes, historic residences to unique natural environments - supported by cutting-edge infrastructure and services, reflecting a complete, integrated and fully operational film industry value chain.
